On May 20, 2006, Cops on Top expedition teams will summit the highest peaks in their respective states to honor the memory of fallen officers. The climbs will take place during National Police Week, May 14 to 20, 2006, with expedition teams expected to summit on May 20.

Cops on Top is organizing the Summit for Heroes with funding and assistance from The Force®, a maker of premium law enforcement and public safety uniforms and a division of VF Imagewear, Inc.

The process of registering climbers is underway and there are several ways to get involved and show your support in remembrance of fallen officers. Officers are encouraged to participate in a climb in their state by organizing a climb, joining an existing climb or sponsoring a climb.

Cops on Top expedition teams are comprised of volunteer climbers, largely law enforcement officers. Family, friends and law enforcement organizations nominate the fallen officers on whose behalf the Cops on Top teams climb.

If you are not able to participate in a climb you can still take part by making a donation to Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) at www.nationalcops.org. COPS is a nonprofit organization providing resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Furthermore, COPS provides training to law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educates the public of the need to support the law enforcement profession and its survivors.

In honor of Summit for Heroes, The Force® will match donations made to COPS during the month of May up to $20,000.
